Job Description

Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Housing Navigator plays a key role in supporting clients in Crittenton's Transitional Housing Placement- Non-Minor Dependents (THP-NMD) and THP-Plus programs by securing and maintaining safe, stable housing. This position supports increased census, client housing retention, and long-term stability by bridging relationships between youth, landlords, property managers, and housing authorities. The Housing Navigator ensures that clients are matched with appropriate housing resources and provides ongoing, trauma-informed support to help youth build self-sufficiency and thrive in independent living.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Verify property ownership, conduct unit inspections, and coordinate the submission of move-in documentation. Attend lease signings and housing interviews to support participants and ensure lease terms are clearly understood. Provide housing-related case management and individualized support to promote stability and self-sufficiency. Conduct weekly check-ins with unhoused participants and monthly home visits for housed clients. Educate participants on tenant rights, lease obligations, and maintaining positive landlord relationships. Build and maintain a network of landlords, property managers, and housing partners. Advocate for youth with housing barriers (e.g., credit issues, evictions) and identify housing opportunities that accommodate their needs. Serve as liaison between landlords, youth, and case managers to resolve conflicts and promote housing retention. Connect participants to resources and community agencies for housing-related concerns. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in HMIS and other program-required systems. Complete annual recertifications and eligibility reassessments as required by program contracts. Track housing availability, placement outcomes, and subsidy utilization to ensure contract compliance. Work collaboratively with THP case managers, program leadership, finance, and housing funders. Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, supervision, and training to support best practices. Represent Crittenton in housing-related meetings and external housing authority discussions as needed. Support data collection and outcome reporting for grant and contract requirements. All other duties as assigned. Pay Range $22-$26 per hour Requirements

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a related healthcare field preferred; relevant work experience in homelessness or housing services may be considered in lieu of a degree. Minimum of two (2) years experience in housing navigation, property management, case management, or related field. Knowledge of federal, state, and local fair housing laws and tenant rights. Experience working with transitional-aged youth (TAY), including those with histories of homelessness, child welfare involvement, or mental health needs. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish fluency), a plus.

COMPUTER / OFFICE SKILLS REQUIRED:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel). Experience with HMIS or equivalent case management/housing database systems. Ability to document client contact and upload supporting documentation accurately and timely.

PHYSICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

Ability to travel frequently within Los Angeles County and Orange County and conduct field-based visits, including transporting clients and attending lease signings. Ability to navigate apartment buildings, housing units, and attend in-person property inspections and home visits.

CLEARANCES REQUIRED:
