Job Description

H&K Group, Inc.,  is seeking a highly motivated Skilled Laborer (Road) 90.09 to develop skills to perform as a laborer on a project on 95 BR3, as part of the PennDOT On-the-Job Training (OJT) Program. The Skilled Labor Trainee will develop skills to support the crew and foreperson construction in completion of the project.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

• Performs all work according to OSHA and H&K Safety policies
• Work with the labor crew and foreperson to develop skills and meet project objectives in
  • Reading roadway plans and standard drawings
  • Use & care of all hand and power tools
  • Construction and assembling concrete forms (load transfer units)
  • Handling and placement of reinforcement steel
  • Placement, finishing and curing of the concrete
• Other duties as required

Required Skills, Education, and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent (such as the GED) from an accredited educational institution
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
• Demonstrated ability to handle the technical elements of the job
• Demonstrated aptitude for and interest in heavy & highway construction
• Valid license (i.e., equipment operator, truck driver, or highway)
• Not be accepted as a trainee in any classification in which they have successfully completed a training program leading toward journey level status, or in which such a person has been gainfully employed as a journey by virtue of informal on-the-job training
• Not be an individual or apprentice who enrolled as “trainee” and quit three (3) times

• Ability to fit test & utilize appropriate PPE as needed
• Ability to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job)

Work Environment

• Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions
• Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts
• Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles
• Noise level is usually moderate
