1.0 Position Title: Pilot

2.0 Nature & Objective: To operate the vessel and tow in a safe and prudent manner.

3.0 Reports To: Captain

4.0 Position Qualifications: Must have proper USCG Merchant Mariner's credentials Must have a TWIC Card, Radio License and Radar Observer Certificate appropriate for area of operations Must have sufficient time with Magnolia Marine to prove competence and leadership skills

5.0 Responsibilities include the following:

  • The Pilot is directly responsible to the Captain. He is 'second in command' and acts on behalf of the Captain when on watch
  • The Pilot, as well as all crew members, is responsible for the safety of the towing vessel and is responsible for compliance with the safety management system.
  • The Pilot is responsible for reporting unsafe conditions and nonconformities to the Port Captain, for taking action to prevent accidents, and ensuring appropriate resolution.
  • The Pilot is responsible for compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • The Pilot has right to determine that an unsafe condition exists and the refusal of tow or navigational area which he deems unsafe or presents undue risk.
  • The Pilot has the ability and responsibility to request the company's help when necessary.
  • The Pilot shall navigate the vessel in full compliance with USCG Rules and Regulations and company policies.
  • While on watch the Pilot is responsible for the safety and welfare of the vessel, its crew and tow. He will sound the alarm and summon the Captain if a dangerous situation develops.
  • The Pilot will stand his watch in the pilothouse even when the vessel is tied up, except while on dry-dock.
  • The Pilot must ensure that all logs are completed for the period he is on watch.
  • Report any incidents or pertinent information to the vessel Captain.
  • The Pilot is responsible for adhering to the provisions of the Certificate of Inspection (COI), if issued.

The Pilot position offers flexible schedules of 30/15, 30/30, and 15/15 as well as a sign on bonus of 2000 dollars.
