Your Responsibilities

As a CTR, you will:

  • Participate in Continuous Improvement: Help plan and conduct programs to ensure accurate and timely data collection.
  • Data Analysis: Review healthcare documentation from various sources to ensure thorough abstraction of cancer information.
  • Reporting: Assist in reporting data to the Texas Department of Health and other authorized users, following departmental procedures.
  • Quality Assurance: Coordinate case finding and data collection activities in compliance with relevant standards.
  • Maintain Productivity: Ensure department productivity and data accuracy meet agency requirements.
  • Professional Development: Identify and participate in continuing education opportunities to enhance your skills.

What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you should have:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
  • Experience: Completion of a clinical practicum or one year of experience in the cancer registry field.
  • Certification: ODS - Oncology Data Specialist (NCRA) or Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR).

Essential Skills and Abilities

  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients, physicians, and colleagues.
  • Thorough knowledge of cancer coding and data management.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, and statistics.
  • Basic computer skills for database management.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
