Overview Winthrop University, a highly ranked, public, comprehensive university, announces a national search for an Assistant Professor of Theatre (Acting). This is a 9-month full-time tenure-track appointment in the Department of Theatre and Dance within the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Salary is dependent upon qualifications. This position requires daily contact with students, faculty, and staff on campus. Additionally, the successful candidate may be expected to work evenings and some weekends as rehearsals require, and student recruitment may necessitate occasional travel. The successful candidate will serve as an integral part of a highly collaborative undergraduate teaching and production environment, providing expertise with an interdisciplinary approach to acting and performance theories. Key Responsibilities Teach all levels of the undergraduate acting curriculum and related theatre courses in a B.A. degree program as well as courses for non-majors Willingness to direct departmental productions Provide insight to all theatre emphases and productions within a collaborative department Advise/mentor theatre majors Maintain creative/scholarly activity Engage in professional stewardship and academic responsibilities per the faculty manual About the College of Visual and Performing Arts About the College of Visual and Performing Arts Winthrop University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) is the academic home to approximately 800 undergraduate students majoring in dance, design, fine arts, music and theatre, and approximately 50 graduate students in six graduate programs and one post-baccalaureate certificate program. The College currently has 49 full-time faculty and 50 part-time lecturers, practicing professionals from the surrounding Charlotte metropolitan area. Winthrop’s academic programs are nationally accredited by NASAD, NAST, NASD, NASM and CIDA. In addition, Winthrop’s arts education programs (art, music, theatre, and dance) are accredited through the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. Qualifications Required: A terminal degree in Theatre (acting and/or performance) A record of scholarly/creative work, publication or professional activity Professional acting experience Demonstrated experience in student mentorship, recruitment, and/or retention Desirable: Professional and/or university directing experience Minimum of two years of university-level teaching experience Experience in working with diverse student populations and an interest in interdisciplinary approaches to scholarly/creative/instructional activities Application Instructions While applications received by January 4 will receive full consideration, the committee will begin reviewing applications as they arrive.
